If you are alive, it is safe to say you know someone diagnosed with a mental health disorder. You also likely know how important it is to receive an accurate diagnosis and limit the stigma attached to a mental health diagnosis. In this episode Dr. Teray Garchitorena Kunishi (http://www.deeplyhappy.com/) an experienced expert in mental health and a Naturopathic Physician in San Francisco speaks about mental health and the concept of neurodiversity ; where mental health issues are seen as a variant of what is considered as a norm rather than as as firmly abnormal. This has become a particularly important concept in Autism Spectrum Disorders, Bipolar Disease, and Schizophrenia. It is not without controversy and we look at both aspects of neurodiversity approaches in this episode. We also speak about societies where conditions like Schizophrenia are treated like a gift and people who deal with this gift are supported and nurtured rather then ostracized. This is a very deep and meaningful episode and one that I am sure will be thought provoking. Please follow Dr. Teray on her website where you also find her course on the Art, Science, and practice of Happiness (http://www.deeplyhappy.com/summit/) . It was an honor to interview Dr. Teray and I hope you enjoy the episode as much as I did.
