Having a child is supposed to be great joy for a parent. However up to 11% of women and 2% of men, experience postpartum depression; a unique mental health condition that is often downplayed, overlooked, and under-treated. It has significant implications on child and parent alike. My colleague Dr. Iyer of Eastside Natural Medicine of Kenmore, Washington joined me in this most thoughtful discussion of this topic. Dr. Iyer has been someone I have respected for many years. She is compassionate, clear thinking, brilliant, and keeps it real. Through her work as a licensed midwife, naturopathic physician and University of Washington school of nursing instructor, she has developed a special interest in grief. She feels the perinatal period is a type of grief process that needs proactive support. It's quite fascinating to listen to her. It’s no doubt why students, patients, and colleagues love Dr. Iyer as she is someone you can really trust. I hope you enjoy it and please share it with new parents or new parents to be as this episode is important to hear .Find Dr. Iyer and her bio at https://eastsidenaturalmedicine.com/
