The human genome project led to the understanding that the genetics in our body are only about 1% human! What else makes up the genetics our microbiota?  The other genetics in our body are from bacteria, viruses, fungi, phages, archaea and the likes that live in our body; predominately in our gut.  Some of these relationships are commensal while others are pathogenic and the relationship between us and our cohabitants are part of the study of the microbiota. In today's episode we speak to Andrea Hardy, RD a GI dietitian about the intricacies of our gut microbiome and how it relates to health and disease.
